CCA, Manila is cooking up a few episodes on GMA News TV’s Quickfire. We are looking for 8 CCA, Manila students who possess the pizzazz to cook with CCA, Manila alumnae and Quickfire host Chef Rosebud Benitez.
Submit your own 10-minute stir-fry recipe using aji-ginisa mix as one of the ingredients and you might clinch your 15-minute-fame on TV!

NOMINATIONS DONE!
The Outstanding Student Award is presented each year to CCA students who embody a collective mix of academic excellence, volunteerism and exemplary character within campus organizations, schools and departments.
Instructions:
Individuals may be nominated by a student, a faculty member, a staff member, an organization or may nominate themselves for the Award. Students will only be recognized for one award at the CCA Anniversary Ceremony.
A nomination must present all documentary evidences to be considered by the selection committee. It is the responsibility of the nominator to turn in a complete packet. All forms must be submitted to the Student Affairs Office on a given date and time.
Eligibility:
- Currently enrolled student at CCA, and be in good standing with the institution. - Students must have an exemplary disciplinary record during their enrollment period at CCA and allow the Student Awards Committee to review their disciplinary records.
- Makes a meaningful contribution to students, CCA and/or surrounding communities.
- Values and works well with others - is committed to working with and for others.
- Demonstrates on-going flexibility, initiative, creativity and perseverance in efforts.
- Inspires others.
- Outstanding academic achievement - Students must have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 1.5 or better. Therefore, students must allow the Student Awards Committee to review their academic records.
- Should have accumulated at least 300 merit points.
- Students who have been nominated or recipients in previous years may participate, but only accomplishments made during the past 12 months will be considered.
- Completed answers to questions about why the individual should be honored.
- Supporting documentation describing the individual in relation to the criteria listed may be submitted. Two (2) letters of recommendation should be submitted. (These may come from peers, advisors, organization members, etc.) Please use Nomination Form.
- It is highly recommended that a resume be provided with the nomination
Judging Criteria:
All nominees will be judged on the following criteria:
- Consistent practice of CCA core values of Safety, Environmentalism, Leadership, Teamwork, Integrity, Commitment and Social Responsibility.
- Active participation in recognized student organization or in the Student Assistance Program
- Campus Involvement (impact on campus, variety, and level of involvement)
- Demonstrated personal growth
- Future commitment and potential for future achievement
- Letter of recommendation
- GPA
- Application Packet

Selection for Outstanding Student Award will be based upon academic achievement and overall leadership and service within the Center for Culinary Arts community over the past year. The Outstanding Student Award may be given in the following manner: one for Diploma in Culinary Arts, one for Diploma in Baking and Pastry Arts.
40% Leadership – He should be able to capture the leadership essentials of inspiration and preparation. The director of the action who possess the combination of personality and leadership skills that makes others want to follow his direction.
30% Academic Excellence – A minimum overall cumulative GPA of 1.5 for the last 2 Terms
20% Service to CCA – Has rendered service to CCA by representing the institution through international and local competitions and has accumulated at least 300 merit points as Student Assistant.
10 % Participation in CCA Institutional Activities – Has been actively attending and participating in various CCA Institutional activities, such as Foundation Day, Outreach, Sports-Fest etc.
Selection
- Top candidates will be interviewed by the Selection Panel. Final selection will be made by the Selection Committee of Center for Culinary Arts, Manila.
- 20% of the total score will be determined by student poll. CCA students will vote for the nominee of their choice.
Computation of Score:
80% of the nominee score will be from the decision of the selection committee
20% will be from the final canvassing of votes from the student poll.

A Selection Committee, formed at the direction of the Board of Directors shall consist of one (1) Committee Chairman who is a CCA member; preferably a director, and four (4) additional committee members. The term of the members shall be for one year.
The Selection Committee shall consist of members in good standing with CCA. The committee members shall serve to assist the chairman in all of the above activities and to also serve as the selection committee for the awarding. The selections made by selection committee must be approved by the board of directors who shall not without reasonable and good cause reject the individual(s) who have been selected.

The SPORTS FEST was held last September 3, 2011. Four teams competed in badminton, basketball, and volleyball. Our students proved that they are not only good in the kitchen but in the court as well! They have endured the heat, moving on their feet for hours, and the pressure to complete a goal. Not very unlike the situation in the kitchen!

Elective Learning Experience
This is a program where students are taken to Culinary Tours in other countries where in they will be enrolling in a school to take a shortcourse and tour the city or country as well. Through this elective, students are exposed to various cultures and cuisines. The elective will coincide with the integration week to avoid disrupting the regular school calendar.
The most recent ELE Culinary Tour was in Thailand where students immersed in its culture and cuisine. They took classes in the Blue Elephant International PLC. For more information on the ELE Culinary Tours, you may inquire at the Student Affairs Office (SAO) or at the Academic Programs Department.

Martial Arts can:
improve stamina, tone and strenghten muscles, improve cardiovascular health, improve body flexibility, improve balance and coordination between the mind and the body, have positive effects on the mind as its training, involves great concentration and self control, help you to keep your stress levels under control and hence, make you feel energized throughout.
Students who are interested in trading their chef’s jacket to a dai (martial arts uniform) for a few hours,
inquire at the Students Affairs Office, look for Ms. Betty Nogpo.

Culinary Village: A Student Project
CCA students are trained to become Chefpreneurs. They should be able to harness their culinary and baking knowledge, skills and creativity by being able to put up their own company, restaurant, or perhaps a catering business. The Culinary Village is one of the most event organized by the students to showcase traditional recipes given a modern interpretation.

Every year, the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) School of Hospitality, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and Center for Culinary Arts, Manila (CCA, Manila) exchange students to enrich its students experience in culinary arts.
The 4-week program includes the ff.:
- Hands-on culinary experience in work rotation
- Cultural education in the Canadian hospitality industry
- Visit to institutional F&B establishments (resorts, restaurants, and hotels)
- Foster family integration
- Food demonstrations
- Apprenticeship hours in Canada to be credited in the Diploma program
Qualifications for the program are as follows:
- Must be in Level 6 or above
- Between 18 to 21 years of age
- Has potential to acquire a visa to Canada (with Canadian visa preferred)
- Should have a GWA of 1.75 or better
- Should not have been charged of any student disciplinary action
- Should be an active member of any of the recognized student organizations of the school
- Should be a Filipino citizen
Interested parties are required to submit the following documents to Student Affairs Office (SAO): 1. A one-page essay on: 1.1. Why you wish to participate in the Student Visiting Program 1.2. How you are going to reciprocate the hospitality of NAIT to future NAIT Students visiting the Philippines. 2. Letter of Intent to Participate bearing Parent/Guardian’s Signature 3. Curriculum Vitae 4. True Copy of Grades 5. Letter of Recommendation from a CCA Faculty 6. Photocopy of Valid Passport (inner cover, pages 1 and 2, and all stamped pages). Passport should be valid until at the least March 2012. 7. Fit to Travel Certification from a CCA – accredited medical service provider (see Ms. Wanda Baje) 8. Photocopy of Canadian Visa (optional)
Note: Students are expected to cover their airfare and pocket money for food on free days and personal needs. Students are expected to reciprocate the hospitality of NAIT by hosting selected activities of CCA Visiting Students program for NAIT.
This year, 6 CCA students are chosen to be part of the Exchange Program. Participating establishments are the Sawridge Inn, Radisson Hotel Edmonton South, and Delta Edmonton South. Duration of the program is from July 1 - 30, 2011.

The objectives of the program for CCA Students are:
- For the students to be part of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the school in order to develop their skills outside the classroom and kitchen laboratory set-up
- To gain valuable experience and exposure that will enhance their culinary, interpersonal, work values and management skills
- To obtain merit points needed for graduation requirements or meritorious service award.
To qualify for membership, selected student assistants must be:
- Officially enrolled as certified by the Registrar’s Office
- Must not have a failing grade in all previous classes
- Physically able and must be fit to work
- Must not have been subjected to any disciplinary measure(s) by CCA authorities
- Must have finished at least the foundation and basic courses of CCA diploma programs
